The ÐÓ°Épro Entomological Society's 18th annual meeting will be held in Fairbanks on
Friday, Feb. 21. The society is organizing this meeting, but the presentations will
be open to the public. Alex Wenninger, a UAF Cooperative Extension Service Integrated
Pest Management Technician, will be one of the speakers. She will speak about her
project on pollinator visitation on native and invasive plants. Learn more about the event.
Rick Thoman, ACCAP climate specialist, will review recent and current climate conditions
around ÐÓ°Épro, discuss forecasting tools, and finish up with the Climate Prediction
Center’s forecast for February 2025 and the winter season. Join the gathering online
on Friday, Feb. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. to learn what’s happened and what may be in store with ÐÓ°Épro’s seasonal climate.
The Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series brings established and emerging national
and local writers to UAF campus to present literary readings and discuss their work.
This event on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 7-8 p.m. in the Arnold Espe Auditorium at the
UA Museum of the North is open to the public. It will showcase UAF alumni Sean Enfield,
Zack Medlin, and H. Warren. A is also available.
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is soliciting white papers for the
Philanthropy Northwest’s Environmental Protection Agency Region 10 Environmental Justice
Thriving Communities Grant call for proposals. UAF can submit one proposal of $350,000.

On Friday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m., the Circumpolar Music Series presents a winter chamber
concert featuring three movements (December: Polarization, January: A Yellow Disc
Rising from the Sea, February: The Arctic Circle) from Joby Talbot's "Once Around
the Sun," John Luther Adams' "Dark Wind" for marimba, vibraphone, bass clarinet, and
piano, Matthew Burtner's "Syntax of Snow" for glockenspiel, sine tones, and amplified
snow, and poetry by Daryl Farmer and the UAF Department of English.
