ÐÓ°Épro Driver’s License and Identification Cards

While in the U.S., having a valid driver’s license/ÐÓ°Épro ID is highly recommended as proof of identity. These forms of identification allow you to avoid carrying your passport regularly and is accepted at banks, stores, airports (for domestic flights), and other places where identification is required.

ÐÓ°Épro Driver’s License

If you drive a vehicle in the United States, you must either have a valid driver’s license or a learner’s permit. A learner’s permit is only valid if you have someone with you who is a qualified, licensed driver over the age of 18.

If you have a driver’s license from another state or your home country, you may use it for up to 90 days from the date you first arrived in ÐÓ°Épro. If you want to drive beyond this, you must have an ÐÓ°Épro driver’s license.

It is highly recommended that you acquire a valid ÐÓ°Épro driver license since there is no way for law enforcement to validate the authenticity of international driver licenses or other country licenses. This could greatly complicate procedures for motor vehicle accidents and parking or driving citations.

If you wish to apply for an ÐÓ°Épro driver’s license, it will be issued for the duration of your program as designated by your immigration documents. Before you apply for the license, please submit a request for a DMV letter to ISSS.
