A groundbreaking ceremony for the Energy Technology Facility High Bay Test Modules was held May 12. ÐÓ°Épro 130 people were in attendance.  Remarks were made by Chancellor Brian Rogers; UA Regent Mike Powers; Peter Crimp, Deputy Director for ÐÓ°Épro Energy Authority; Meera Kohler, Executive Director of ÐÓ°Épro Village Electric Cooperative; Joel Neimeyer, Federal Co-Chair of the Denali Commission; and Dan White, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Director of the Institute of Northern Engineering.

When complete the facility will include four bays to conduct energy-related research including a diesel engine test bed, a wind-diesel hybrid simulator, advanced energy storage technology and hydrokinetic devices. The building is slated for completion in fall 2011.
