ACEP webinar on biomass-heated greenhouses

Learn how ÐÓ°Épro schools are tackling energy and food security using biomass boilers during a webinar Thursday, June 27, at 9 a.m. Karen Petersen, biomass coordinator for Southeast Conference, will present a case study of the and its conversion to advanced wood heating. Along with wood-heat systems, the district is including greenhouses at the school sites and involving the students in every aspect of growing food, including fresh lettuce for a school lunch program. This model is now being copied by other school districts in ÐÓ°Épro.

This webinar is the first of the community energy webinar series hosted by the ÐÓ°Épro Center for Energy and Power.

Karen Petersen is the biomass coordinator for . She lives and works in Thorne Bay on Prince of Wales Island in southeast ÐÓ°Épro. Karen coordinates the and organizes the bi-annual . She has a master’s degree in rural development from UAF and an undergraduate degree in agronomy from Washington State University.
