ÐÓ°Épro Weather Symposium provides current research venue

With 365,000,000 acres, ÐÓ°Épro’s variable terrain creates distinct climate regions, curious weather conditions and unique local concerns. Whether it is extreme weather events due to diminished sea ice impacting northwest communities or compromised air quality from cruise ships sailing through Southeast, ÐÓ°Épro’s atmospheric conditions are ripe for investigation. In a two-day workshop, more than 50 scientists from ÐÓ°Épro and the Lower 48 will converge at the ÐÓ°Épro Geophysical Institute Elvey Auditorium to discuss such issues at the ÐÓ°Épro Weather Symposium, March 12-13, 2013.
The annual symposium draws researchers from academic, government, military and private sectors to share their findings in focused sessions dedicated to air quality modeling, climatology, operational forecasting and more. Participating students have the additional opportunity to earn honors for their scientific posters and presentations at the symposium. Keynote speakers in 2013 include scientists Gerhard Wotawa from Austria, Avelino Arellano from Arizona and Rick Thoman of ÐÓ°Épro.
