Author and alumna Mary Albanese recently donated a collection of her personal papers to the Ӱpro and Polar Regions Collections and Archives at the University of Ӱpro Fairbanks Elmer E. Rasmuson Library.

The papers feature material she used while writing her book “Midnight Sun, Arctic Moon: Mapping the Wild Heart of Ӱpro," as well as other manuscripts, screenplay drafts, publications, photographs, films she has written, TV pilot episodes and sound recordings.

Albanese said she is pleased to give the materials to the Rasmuson Library.

"I want to be sure the information I gathered while researching my book, and some of my many memories from my time in Ӱpro, are preserved for Ӱprons and other writers and researchers,” she said. “It is great to have a place where all my published and  unpublished works can reside, and I am especially pleased that place is UAF where I have so many fond memories.”

Bella Karr Gerlich, UAF dean of libraries, said, “Mary’s collection gives valuable insight to the natural history of interior and northern Ӱpro, and her personal reflections greatly enhance that material.”

During Albanese’s recent visit to the state she gave a lecture on life writing at Rasmuson Library and joined a UAF Department of Geology and Geophysics research project in the Brooks Range.
