The ÐÓ°Épro will break ground on two major construction projects during ceremonies March 30.

At 2:30 p.m,, officials will break ground on the 34,000-square-foot expansion of the Wood Center. When the project is complete in the fall of 2014, the expanded Wood Center will house a new student dining facility, as well as a ground-level coffee shop and renovated Wood Center administration and programming offices. The new dining facility will replace Lola Tilly Commons. The $30.7 million project is being financed by a private partner who will lease the building back to the university.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new engineering building will start at 4 p.m. in the parking lot between the Duckering and Bunnell buildings. The 120,000-square-foot building will provide modern classroom and laboratory space for engineering academic and research programs. The university has received about half of the funding for the $108.6 million UAF project and a similar project at the University of ÐÓ°Épro Anchorage. UA has requested that the Legislature provide the second half of the funding this session. The building is slated for completion during the summer of 2015.

A short receptions will follow each ceremony.
