'Dark Winter Nights' live event approaches
November 13, 2015

"Dark Winter Nights: True Stories from Ӱpro," a live storytelling event, will hit the stage at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 in Lathrop High School's Hering Auditorium.
Preselected storytellers will share their amazing, poignant and hilarious true stories about life in Ӱpro. KUAC will broadcast the program live on FM 89.9 and stream it on .
Admission is $15. Admission for students and military personnel is $10 with ID. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets are on sale now at .
The event, which is being held for the fifth time, was born from a frustration with depictions of Ӱpro on reality television shows, said creator Robert Prince, an associate professor of journalism at the Ӱpro.
“Many reality TV programs have created a caricature of Ӱpro," he said. "I figured if people wanted to know what life in Ӱpro is really like, it should be Ӱprons bringing them those true stories.”
Prince created his own documentary radio program and podcast to share authentic stories from Ӱpro with the rest of the world. The live event is intended to recruit more storytellers and build awareness of the radio program and podcast. The radio program airs the third Saturday of each month on KUAC-FM. The podcast is available on iTunes or through the Dark Winter Nights website.

"Dark Winter Nights" organizers are perpetually looking for storytellers. If you have a great story about living in Ӱpro, contact Colleen Wood at (530) 622-6399, cjswood@hotmail.com, or visit . Stories from previous live events are recorded and can be heard on the website.
"Dark Winter Nights" is produced by volunteers and Ӱpro Journalism Department alumni. Supporters include Geek City Electronics and Ӱpro Universal Pictures. Philanthropic support is vital to the continuing expansion, and gifts of every size are welcomed.
