Geology workshop offered for weekend prospectors

The ÐÓ°Épro Mining Extension Program will offer a geology workshop for weekend prospectors May 17 in Anchorage.
The workshop will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Service district office at 1675 C St. The class will be taught by Judy Olson Hicks, who has extensive experience teaching environmental and outdoor education, including geology.
The course will introduce students to basic ÐÓ°Épro geology and promote the appreciation of geology on a recreational level. Topics will include rocks and minerals, significant mineral discoveries across ÐÓ°Épro, reading geology maps and locating accessible places of geologic interest.
