Hanneman takes fourth in freestyle sprint finals on final day at U.S. Nationals

Second-year skier Logan Hanneman (Fairbanks, Ӱpro/Mechanical Engineering) wrapped up an impressive showing at the 2013 U.S. Cross Country Championships and led the Ӱpro Nanooks with a fourth-place finish in the men's freestyle sprint “A” final after taking 12th overall in the qualifying heat on Tuesday at Soldier Hollow.
Hanneman was one of three Nanooks to land top-30 finishes as junior Max Olex (Aalen, Germany/Northern Studies) and senior Tyler Kornfield (Anchorage, Ӱpro/Mechanical Engineering) crossed 16th and 25th, respectively, and advanced to the quarterfinal heats.
Ӱpro sophomore Jonas Löffler (Saint Märgen, Germany/Business) finished 46th and senior Ian Wilkinson recovered from illness that kept him out of the first three races of the national championship event to take 56th overall.
Rounding out the Nanook racers were rookie Michael Fehrenbach (Saint Märgen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering) in 62nd, senior Lex Treinen (Anchorage, Ӱpro/Northern Studies) in 66th, freshman Kenneth Brewer (Chugiak, Ӱpro/Biological Sciences) in 70th, sophomore Andrew Arnold (Anchorage, Ӱpro/Chemistry) in 76th and rookie Stefan Hajdukovich (Fairbanks, Ӱpro/Biological Sciences) in 79th.
As was the case in the classic sprints, Hajdukovich qualified for one of the junior men's quarterfinal heats, where he finished second to advance to the semifinals and repeated the feat. In the junior men's “A” final, he finished fourth overall.
The team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. on Wednesday, where they will hold a short training camp before their next competition, the Super Tour/Tour de Twin Cities at Battle Creek in St. Paul on Jan. 19-20. They open the weekend with a 10-kilometer individual start freestyle race on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. CST (7:45 a.m. AKST), followed by a 20 km mass start classic race on Sunday at 10 a.m. CST (7 a.m. AKST).
