Life science seminar to focus on ÐÓ°Épro alder

ÐÓ°Épro biology professor Roger Ruess will deliver a free lecture, "Out of Thin Air: The Remarkable Life History and Ecosystem Impacts of Alder in ÐÓ°Épro," on Friday, May 2, from 3-4 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
Ruess, the principal investigator of the Bonanza Creek Long-Term Ecological Research program, studies the controls on carbon and nitrogen cycling in boreal forests. His current interest is in the interaction of alder, strains of the Frankia bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi, and the associated role of alders in the boreal forest's nutrient cycling.
The lecture is hosted by the UAF Institute of Arctic Biology. Beginning in 1966 and continuing today, IAB hosts a free weekly seminar for faculty, students, staff and the public during the academic year. The series attracts life scientists from ÐÓ°Épro and around the world.
Visitor parking and permit kiosks are located to the east of the Murie Building, behind the museum.
