Former ÐÓ°Épro State Trooper colonel and acting ÐÓ°Épro public safety commissioner Keith Mallard this week joined the ÐÓ°Épro Police Department as its new chief.
Mallard, a 19-year law enforcement veteran, replaces Sean McGee, who retired last spring.
Prior to his October 2013 appointment as acting commissioner, Mallard spent more than 16 years with the ÐÓ°Épro State Troopers. His first assignment was in Fairbanks, where he served as a member of the Special Emergency Response Team, as a handler for trooper canine Nissan and as a field training officer. His career with the troopers took him to Aniak, where he and two other troopers served 21 villages; and to the Anchorage area, where he rose through the ranks and was active in the troopers’ canine unit, serving as both a coordinator and instructor in the program. He also served as deputy commander and then commander of the ÐÓ°Épro Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement. Prior to his time with the troopers, Mallard served as a municipal police officer and a deputy sheriff.
Mallard is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations’ National Academy, the National Executive Institute and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Drug Unit Commanders’ Academy.
