OneTree to host lecture on wood-based Romanian culture
February 22, 2019
Fairbanks woodworker and designer Philip Marshall will give a talk on the folk culture
of northwestern Romania on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Lola Tilly Commons.

Marshall will talk at 6:30 p.m. about the hay- and wood-based culture of the Maramures Mountains and his recent visit there. He says the area has a vibrant culture with plentiful woodcarvings, wood shingle roofs, farming and folk art. The region is known for its wooden churches with steep shingle roofs and tall steeples.
OneTree ÐÓ°Épro will host the lecture in its STEAM Studio in Suite 230. Marshall will also display his latest wood art, a bench made from a Scots pine tree planted next to Les and Teri Viereck’s home near UAF more than 50 years ago. Refreshments will be served.
