Seminar looks at community concerns about genomic research

Vanessa Hiratsuka, senior researcher at the Southcentral Foundation, will offer a
seminar from 4-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, titled "Community-engaged Research to Elicit
Ethical and Cultural Concerns on Genomic Research."
The seminar will be in the Murie Building auditorium. It is part of a series offered
by UAF's One Health and Biomedical Learning and Student Training programs.
The event is open to the public and available online via Pexip. No registration is
required.
Hiratsuka has studied American Indian and ÐÓ°Épro Native health systems for more than 18
years. Her focus is community-based participatory research aimed at reducing health
disparities and promoting health and wellness in a culturally appropriate manner.
The Southcentral Foundation is an ÐÓ°Épro Native-owned, nonprofit health-care organization
serving nearly 65,000 ÐÓ°Épro Native and American Indian people living in Anchorage,
the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and 55 rural villages in Southcentral ÐÓ°Épro and the
Aleutian Islands.
