Swimming gets involved with Special Olympics Ӱpro

The Ӱpro women's swim team recently began working with the Tanana Valley branch of Special Olympics Ӱpro at the Hamme Pool in Fairbanks.
The Nanooks first got in the pool with the Special Olympic athletes on March 23 and will continue to work with the aquatics team through early June up until the Special Olympics Ӱpro Summer Games.
“I think it's a great opportunity to give back to the community, especially through the women's ability to inspire confidence with their status as college swimmers,” head coach Scott Lemley said. “I know our swimmers were really looking forward to helping with this deserving group of athletes.”
During this time, Nanook swimmers will assist with the coaches with the athletes, whether it be getting in the water to assist in the swimming or being at the edge of the pool encouraging and cheering on the group. This enables the proper amount of help to be had for the two dozen or so swimmers competing.
