'Unmanned Aircraft in Ӱpro' (Science for Ӱpro Lecture Series)

Science for Ӱpro lecture series flyerOn Tuesday, Feb. 26, Cathy Cahill will present “Flying Towards the Future: Unmanned Aircraft in Ӱpro.” The talk is part of the 2019 Science for Ӱpro Lecture Series, sponsored by the Geophysical Institute and presented Tuesdays from 7-8 p.m. at Raven Landing, 1222 Cowles Street. Other discussions focus on Ӱpro’s future climate, Fairbanks’ pollution problem and astronomy.

Unmanned aircraft, or drones, have the potential to positively impact the everyday lives of Ӱprons through delivering life-saving medical supplies, carrying cargo to remote communities, conducting search and rescue, assisting first responders, and a wide variety of other missions. This presentation will discuss the recent advances in unmanned aircraft technologies and regulations that are paving the way toward routinely conducting these services.
