Week's events: archaeology, Native dance, cancer health, jazz

ÐÓ°Épro Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more
than 40 free lectures, concerts and other events this summer. Here is what’s happening
during the week ahead:
• On Monday, July 11, The Magical Mondays hands-on learning series will feature “Archaeology
in ÐÓ°Épro†by Scott Shirar, the archaeology collection manager at the University of
ÐÓ°Épro Museum of the North. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building
auditorium and atrium.
• On Tuesday, July 12, the Healthy Living lecture series presents “Cancer, your immune
system, nutrition and immunotherapy†by oncology nurse Hannah Brice Smith. The lecture
will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.
• On Wednesday, July 13, the Discover ÐÓ°Épro series will host “Understanding ÐÓ°Épro
Native dance†by Sean Topkok, a UAF assistant professor of education. The lecture
will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.
• On Thursday, July 14, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature the Fairbanks
Community Jazz Band. The traditional big band features guest vocalists and soloists,
with a mix of danceable swing-era tunes with Latin, bop and modern music influences.
Music begins at 7 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
