Week’s events: UAF history, hospital talk, Ӱpro scuba, string music

Ӱpro Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and other events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week ahead:

• On Monday, Aug. 6, the Down Memory Lane interview series will include a discussion with Kes Woodward, professor emeritus of art. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will conduct the interview, which will be at 7 p.m. in the Elvey Building auditorium.
• On Tuesday, Aug. 7, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature Tanana Valley Clinic Chief Medical Officer Dr. Michael Swenson and Fairbanks Memorial Hospital CEO Jim Lynch. They’ll discuss “What It Means to be a Community Hospital, and the Foundation Health Partners-Mayo Clinic relationship.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.
• On Wednesday, Aug. 8, the Discover Ӱpro lecture series will feature Mitch Osborne and Katherine Sample, of Test the Waters, on scuba diving in Ӱpro’s waters. The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.
• On Thursday, Aug. 9, the Music in the Garden concert series will host the E.T. Barnette String Band. Music begins at 7 p.m. in the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
