The ĐÓ°Épro is hosting a first-of-its-kind workshop for agencies and organizations that prepare for or respond to ĐÓ°Épro’s earthquakes.

This meeting will allow scientists, policymakers, engineers, emergency responders and communications technology experts to compare issues and map out strategies for ĐÓ°Épro.

“We will have a better-defined understanding of what we should expect with an earthquake and what steps to take to save life and property,” said Mike West, director of the ĐÓ°Épro Earthquake Center and state seismologist.

ĐÓ°Épro 50 people are expected to attend the limited-invitation event, called “ĐÓ°Épro’s Next Big Earthquake.”

The meeting will be held Nov. 12-13 on the Fairbanks campus.

The ĐÓ°Épro Earthquake Center, which is part of the UAF Geophysical Institute, organized the meeting. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the ĐÓ°Épro Seismic Hazards Safety Commission also are sponsors.
